The Big Picture & Corporate Moves 📰

Macro Movement

In global macro policy, US President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Friday waiving key sanctions and tariffs on Russia under the Graham Act. This executive legislative shift seeks to boost Russian fuel exports, which eased Brent crude down from its recent peak of $110 down to roughly $108.30 a barrel.

Back home, the Indian rupee continues its robust recovery, strengthening to 94.96 per US dollar supported heavily by tactical interventions from the Reserve Bank of India.

Corporate Tracker

Tech Mahindra: The IT major reported a massive 32.74% jump in consolidated net profit to ₹1,585.6 crore for Q2 FY27, sparking an 8.48% single-day stock surge along with a dividend and bonus issue rollout.

HDFC Bank: The banking heavyweight reported a second-quarter net profit that narrowly missed consensus analyst estimates due to weaker treasury income and elevated bad-loan provisions.

ICICI Bank: Countering its peer, the lender posted better-than-expected September-quarter profits driven by resilient core lending growth and dropping provisions for bad loans.

Axis Bank: The financial giant’s quarterly earnings narrowly missed expectations as higher operating expenses and muted non-interest income offset steady credit growth.

Omaxe: The realty player signed a major strategic pact with Lemon Tree Hotels' subsidiary to manage 10 hospitality projects valued at ₹4,000 crore.

IPOs & Corporate Actions

The primary market shifts gears into high density this week, headlined by final structural filings and speculation surrounding the highly anticipated Jio Platforms mega IPO.

In corporate adjustments, Swiggy confirmed that Lynks Logistics has officially ceased to be its subsidiary, while Tech Mahindra shareholders prepare for execution timelines regarding the newly declared bonus issue.

By The Numbers: Market Health Check 📊

Market Status: The Nifty 50 closed the previous session up 0.65% (or 148.80 points) at 23,146.15. The BSE Sensex climbed 0.56% (or 413.66 points) to finish at 74,729.27.

Both benchmarks wrapped up a 3%+ weekly gain, securing their strongest weekly performance in six months amid absolute IT sector dominance.

Key Levels & Weekly Technicals: On the weekly chart, Nifty formed a robust bullish-bodied candlestick, establishing primary immediate support in the 22,800–22,900 zone after bouncing near its 200-week extended moving average (EMA) of 22,390.

Overhead resistance is placed strictly at 23,150, followed by a major structural hurdle at 23,300. The weekly RSI has stabilized from recent oversold conditions, while the options Put-Call Ratio (PCR) advanced 0.07 to signal strong downside short covering.

Upcoming Earnings Schedule: Q2 FY27 corporate earnings hit peak intensity today, Monday, October 19, featuring heavyweight releases from Bajaj Finance, UltraTech Cement, Hindustan Zinc, Union Bank of India, IREDA, and LT Technology Services.

FII & DII Actions: Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) flipped to net buyers on Friday, picking up equities worth ₹1,165.92 crore ($122.79M).

Conversely, Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) chose to book profits, registering a net outflow of ₹3,661.28 crore.

Commodity & Global Cues: International oil dynamics remain highly fluid with Brent Crude hovering at $108.30 per barrel.

US Bond yields cooled down from recent peaks, giving immediate respite to equities despite Wall Street closing lower on Friday as the Nasdaq Composite tumbled 2.14% over AI valuation concerns.

Meanwhile, on the domestic front, safe-haven demand pushed MCX Gold futures structurally higher.

The Retail Reality Check 💸

Just when we all accepted that our stock portfolios had permanently transitioned into a public charitable trust, the IT sector pulls off its biggest weekly rally in half a year.

Watching Tech Mahindra skyrocket 8% while your own high-conviction mid-caps move completely sideways is a special kind of emotional damage.

We spent weeks praying for FIIs to stop treating Dalal Street like an all-you-can-eat clearance sale, and the exact day they finally turn net buyers, our own domestic DIIs decide it’s the perfect time to mass-liquidate and book profits.

Now we sit on the edge of our seats with our accounts firmly in the red, staring at a Nifty technical chart, trying to convince ourselves that a bullish harami cross pattern is going to magically pay our upcoming credit card bills.

Let’s Talk Strategy 👇

With Nifty sitting right at the critical 23,150 resistance level and a heavy earnings lineup featuring Bajaj Finance and UltraTech Cement dropping today, what is your trading game plan?

Are you using this massive short-covering bounce to trim your lagging positions, or are you buying into private banking stocks post-earnings?
